One of the toughest things about being in the nonprofit tech sphere is having to keep up on all the latest trends, new tools and best practices. In addition to following awesome people and the #nptech hashtag on Twitter, it's a good idea to subscribe to a few blogs on the subject. The ones below are those I find particularly helpful. (I didn't rank them, because they're all helpful in their own ways. They are presented in no particular order.)
Amy Sample Ward's Version of NPTECH Amy has her finger on the pulse of the latest trends. I love how she shares her notes from conferences and her own speaking engagements.
John Haydon I wrote a couple weeks ago about the awesomeness of John Haydon's blog, and this list wouldn't be complete without it. He's the guy to go to for practical how-to's and insightful commentary related to nonprofits and social media.
NTEN Connect Blog Want great webinars, whitepapers and guest posts from leading nonprofit tech experts? This is the place to go.
Socialbrite Top-notch contributors like John Haydon (see above), J.D. Lasica and Debra Askanase keep the blog hopping with up-to-the-minute how-to's, app reviews, best practices and inspring stories. There's a lot to love about this blog.
Mashable Social media, tech, entertainment, with lots of eye-catching galleries and infographics…Mashable is a must-visit. There's a lot of content here (especially during big tech events like CES and SXSW), but it's worth going through. (And, rumor has it, they're being bought by CNN.)
TechCrunch TechCrunch is similar to Mashable, and their coverage often overlaps, but there are enough differences that it's worth following both. The main difference is that TechCrunch tends to be a bit edgier than Mashable.
Lifehacker Lifehacker rarely covers nonprofit stories, and doesn't cover social media terribly often, but it's a great resource for the latest-and-greatest productivity apps, handy keyboard shortcuts, and the sorts of things that simply make your life as a nonprofit techie easier.
SocialTimes SocialTimes covers social media, and is often among the first to report emerging social networks and international social network news.
